What
does "ride for the brand" mean?
The history of the
American West is filled with these kinds of phrases that reveal the
nature of the men and women who came west. "Ride for the brand" in
the words of the western writer, Louis L'Amour, was "an expression of
loyalty to a man's employer or the particular outfit he rode for. It
was considered a compliment of the highest order in an almost feudal
society. If a man did not like a ranch or the way they conducted
their affairs he was free to quit, and many did, but if he stayed on,
he gave loyalty and expected it." |
|
In these days, it can be a
matter of courage to pick and choose God's Outfit to work for and to be
loyal to. Living with Christ's integrity to values, really living them
involves, sometimes difficult, but necessary choices. A productive and
happy life come from "riding for the brand."
Here at Cowboy Junction we are
riding for Christ's brand together. Our congregation is in the continual
process of
-
"You must be considerate of
one another; cultivating a life in common." 1 Corinthians 1:10b (Mes)
-
"Your love for one another
will prove to the world that you are my disciples." John 13:35 (NLT)
-
“Share
each other’s troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of
Christ” Galatians 6:2, (NLT)
-
"Be patient with each other, making
allowance for each other's faults because of your love." Ephesians 2:4b
(NLT)
-
"Be friendly with everyone.
Don't be proud and feel that you are smarter than others. Make friends
with ordinary people." Romans 12:16 (CEV)
-
"Encourage one another and
build each other up." 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV)
